Two down, two to go

Have got through two exams this week, with another coming up on Tuesday and one more the week after – on the last day of exams of all times :(.

Distributed Operating Systems: I seemed to know enough material to answer any of the questions, which was reassuring. It was surprising to see no mention of most of the algorithms that we’d spent some time on and which I was comfortable with, but I could get through the rest of the material without too many problems so it didn’t matter that much.

Network Security: I was dreading this one because of all the technical detail that was in the notes, but in the end it turned out that most of the questions were on the application of the technologies rather than the nitty gritty details of protocols such as Kerberos. The first question on Unix password authentication was a godsend, no problems there. The other stuff was a bit waffly so I think I managed to stumble through that as well, carefully avoiding the question that involved anything to do with mathematical formulae.

As usual two hours wasn’t enough to write what I thought were comprehensive answers to all three questions, but I think I did well enough on both papers to get a reasonable mark.

  1. To be honest, I’d rather have that and get them all over and done with than be worrying about exams over a three or four week period.
